Why Your Business Needs Differently Skilled Team Members

Building a great team isn’t about finding people who all think, work, and solve problems the same way. In fact, one of the biggest strengths a business can have is a team made up of people with different skills.
Think about your own strengths. You might be brilliant at building relationships and winning new business, but struggle with systems and processes. Someone else might love numbers, while another person thrives on creative thinking or getting the details exactly right.
You don’t need to be great at everything. You need people around you who are great at the things you’re not.
When you bring together different skill sets, you create a more balanced business. Problems are approached from different angles. Ideas are challenged and improved. Tasks can be given to the people who are naturally suited to them rather than expecting everyone to do everything.
This is particularly important as a business grows. Hiring another version of yourself might feel comfortable, but it can leave important gaps in the team.
Instead, look for complementary skills. Ask yourself: What does our business need that we don’t currently have?
The strongest teams aren’t made up of identical people. They’re made up of different people whose strengths work together.
