A Career Built Around Practical Change

My career has never followed a single industry. It has followed a single purpose, helping people, organisations and communities solve complex problems and create practical, lasting change.

For more than 30 years, I have worked across healthcare, justice, housing, iwi development, business, property investment, education and artificial intelligence. While these sectors appear different, the work has always been the same. I bring people together, simplify complex challenges, build practical systems and turn ideas into action.

I began by working within a multidisciplinary team in the area of anti-violence program's which then expanded into being the youngest ever Chairperson of Prisoners' Aid Northland, and in time into justice sector and community leadership roles as a Probation Officer, achieving an enviable 100% compliance record by building trust, setting clear expectations and support people to make positive changes, followed by managing a specialist medical practice and surgical services for more than 20 years. During that time, I led the transition from paper-based systems to digital operations and helped expand specialist healthcare across Northland by introducing travelling clinics, telephone consultations, online appointments and mobile image assessments where clinically appropriate. These changes improved access to specialist healthcare for patients living in rural communities.

Later, as a Restorative Justice Facilitator with Ngāti Hine Health Trust, I helped guide restorative processes that supported accountability, healing and stronger community relationships. Throughout my career, I have also supported people to navigate complex systems, helping them organise documentation, understand processes and move forward when professional services were beyond their financial reach.

I later volunteer chaired a children's drama club, strengthening governance, community engagement and opportunities for young people. I also established one of Northland's early rent-to-own housing initiatives, creating practical pathways towards home ownership for people who had limited access to traditional lending options with POP Housing Project.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was invited to join the team working within the largest iwi collaboration in New Zealand. I developed operational systems, negotiated with stakeholders and coordinated emergency accommodation for people experiencing homelessness. While the initial goal was temporary accommodation, our broader approach helped approximately 40% of participants move into permanent housing through private rentals, whānau support or home ownership.

From 2022 to 2024, I led the First Step to Housing programme for Te Kahu o Taonui, funded by Te Puni Kōkiri. The programme delivered transportable cabins to iwi across Northland to strengthen community resilience following the pandemic. The cabins became flexible community assets, supporting emergency accommodation, temporary housing, medical outreach, marae resources, worker accommodation and other locally identified needs.

In 2024, I designed and wrote the Path to Prosperity programme, delivered in association with New Zealand Police through a community-funded initiative with Community Approach Trust and Wealth Mentor Limited. The programme focused on helping participants strengthen financial capability, build confidence and create practical pathways towards greater independence and long-term prosperity and was delivered in multiple languages to ensure reach.

Today, I bring together decades of leadership experience through my work as the founder of Business Wahine, a business consultant, AI specialist and Community Manager for Wealth Mentor. I work with entrepreneurs, investors, organisations and communities to design and deliver programmes, improve systems, adopt artificial intelligence, grow businesses and create opportunities that produce measurable outcomes.

The industries have changed throughout my career, but my purpose has remained consistent.

I help people navigate complexity. I build practical systems that work.

I create partnerships that achieve more together than they could alone.

Most importantly, I focus on outcomes that continue creating value long after a project has been completed.
